影片讲述遭受气候变化破坏的后末世，社会的方方面面都受到严格控制。一对夫妇（希米什·帕特尔、伊丽莎白·奥尔森 饰）想要生孩子，一名女性评估员（艾丽西亚·维坎德 饰）前来对他们进行为期7天的审查，确定是否合格，此事却演变成一场噩梦。作为福琼的导演处女座，影片直观地讲述了养育孩子，需要知道的“二三事”。
