影片讲述了年轻气盛的墨西哥厨师佩德罗（劳尔·布里奥内斯 饰）怀揣梦想来到了纽约的一家餐厅工作，却成了麻烦制造者。佩德罗爱上了女服务员朱莉娅（鲁妮·玛拉 饰），却因为被指控偷钱给朱莉娅堕胎，面临失业危机。佩德罗在异国他乡的追梦之旅被迫中断，一切开始朝着不可收拾的地步发展。
