作为新中国首批接受系统化表演教育的艺术生，叶琳瑯于1954年在电影《土地》中首次登上大银幕，一生共参与了五十余部作品的创作，其代表作有《血色清晨》《香魂女》《小字辈》《高朋满座》等，并凭借李少红版《红楼梦》中“刘姥姥”一角进一步为大众所熟知。
