日前，《壮志凌云2：独行侠》曝光了IMAX版本海报。海报上的主演汤姆·克鲁斯正驾驶着一架战斗机，掠过一艘航母。整张海报看起来非常炫酷，光线点缀也恰到好处。
在影片中，汤姆·克鲁斯所扮演的飞行员在新的时代里面临着全新的挑战。虽然他正值壮年，而且飞行技术不减当年。但新时代里，全新的无人机技术，还是让他这样的老派飞行员的地位受到了挑战。除了阿汤哥，詹妮弗·康纳利、迈尔斯·特勒、方·基默等人都将会出现在影片中。
按计划，本片将会于5月27日在北美上映，不过制片方为了配合"Top Gun Tuesday"的宣发活动，特意提前了三天，小规模的提前点映本片。这也意味着，一部分影迷将会在5月24日提前欣赏到本片。
