《阿凡达2：水之道》的问世距离前作已有12年之久，但在故事上的联系颇为紧密。为了躲避在潘多拉星上采矿的人类，萨姆·沃辛顿出演的杰克带领家人进入了沿海地区，在这里他们和另一个部族相遇。

在首款预告片中，詹姆斯·卡梅隆的想象力通过最新特效技术得以展现。人物在丛林行进时面部阴影的变化以及水面被气流扰动的状态都贴近现实。在续集中，奇异的外星生物阵容也有所扩充，一种能够潜水还能飞翔的水生生物似乎在被驯化后产生极大作用。据悉，影片将于12月16日在北美上映。
